Refugium Setup

I have a 20 gal tank i am setting up as a refugium for my 40 gal reef tank. I planned on using my Fluval 304 as a return pump(since I already have it). Will this work? Can I use regular play sand for the DSB in the refugium (since I picked up the wrong brand)? Any input on what will work best is greatly appreciated.

I think the equipment board will bring this to a lot of DIY guru's attention.
Not sure if SWF sells it, but inlandaquatic sells this Refugium Fauna kit which I haven't gotten yet, but got some good review and plan to get it. So, you can use playsand (if you have southdown, it would be best) and add that kit ....let me know how that works so I would spend my money then
