First maybe you should double your LS and LR amounts. I have 80lbs LS in my 46 gal and around 90lbs LR. Would be a good first step. For the refugium you need an overflow box on your main tank and a return pump thats rated less GPH then the overflow that you buy for the refugium. Put macro algae in the refugium, get a slow flow rate going and walah, you have one nice bio-filter.
You can also do variations such as making it a sump as well, where you would place your skimmer and heater.

my tank is a drilled over flow.. that came with an over flow for a tank that is not drilled.. can i use that?? i already have a sump with my heater and skimmer

reefman...not sure I understand that last post.....would it be possible to set this refugium slightly higher than your display?
If so you could set it up as a gravity return type .......in mine its gravity return and I use a Hagen 802 power head to feed the refugium via a 3/4 inch ID tube(there are dual returns using the same type tube)...mine is 30 gal with about 80 lbs of LS/rubble and assorted caulpera...flow rate is about 65-75 GPH...

Well its actually not possible to have it higher then the tank. So my question is, couldnt i have the water GOING to the refugium throught gravity, then pump it back to the main tank??

Thats the way its suppose to be...the return pump would be in the refugium and pump water back to the main tank which feeds the overflow.

hey reefman i just set up a refugium, you can use the pre drilled overflow, what i did was put an overflow on my rank, and run it down to a 20 high and it has .25" plexi-glass divider that is 3 inches wide and 12 inches high, and on the other side of the tank i have another quater inch thick divider and it is a half inch shorter than the other side and is wide enough to fit a rio 1700 that pumps the water to a spray bar, i'll be getting a job at aqurium discount soon, so if you want i can draw you a diagram, later
