Refugium

My main tank has been up for two years, I am now adding a refugium to the main tank. When I start the refug up and add rock rubble and live sand to the 20 gallon refug, will the refug cycle? How will that effect the main tank?

If you are adding a source of die off to the refugium then yes it will cycle. If you are buying cured live rock and sand then you will be fine (cured rock and sand cannot be shipped to you). Also, bagged sand is not true live sand.

Ok, so I am not sure how to start the refug with my main tank. I assume I do not want an uncycled refug flowing into my sump.

what size is your dt tank?

just put the live rock in a 20 gallon tupperware and let it cure. just add a heater and water pump.
