refugium

i have been thinking a lot about adding a refugium to my ten gallon to grow some macros in and other little stuff. I also just remembered that i have a little .75 gallon cube with a 7 watt PC. do you guys think this little tank would be big enough to use, or should i just consider a HOB, or wait til I move and get my 100 gal+ ?

I have one of those CPR HOB refugiums and it works great. I dont have anything in it though because I cannot find macros :nope:

I just had a idea, i have a PS (prizm, merry christmas) and a Skilter (none skimming POS) hanging on the back of my tank, what if i threw some macros and LS inside of the skilter and put the little clip-on light on there? that way i don't have to worry about hoses and all the rest of the hassle of water flow.

I would ditch that idea and get a cpr refugium or a aquaclear 500 to use as a refugium. If you use a hob filter as a refugium you are going to have to put some type of dividers in there to keep the sand and macro from entering the tank. I say go with a cpr refugium and drill some holes in the outlet and inlet pipes and put a battery back up surge protector on that pump that runs it. I have been running mine for 3 months without any problems, and has kept my tank algae free and nitrates to a minimal.

this is really sad. SWF does have some so you might check here. I am sure hobbiest in your area are tossing macros out each month. What is really sad is your LFS doesn't have macros but probably has plenty of FW plants. If nothing else email me for links. beaslbob@aol.com

Near the parkway they have the aquarium shop and it is pricey. there is a newer store with better prices. But go figure. My tang from the aquarium shop looked terrible but is now three time bigger. the good looking fish from the other store are all gone. The people at the aquarium shop seem aloof but you know, they seem much more knowledgable- at least the older guy who has been in the business for 30 years LOL.

I am an old fw leiden (plant tank) freak. my current 10g fresh has been running for 3 years with no filter not even an air stone. Also have a 20g salt i use for macro algae culture. the display is a 55g with base rock, corals, fish, plants and refug.

Never been there but found out it is a hardware store on SW side LOL. Drop in if you get in town. we can swap stories.
