Refugiums

Some of you have or are getting refugiums. What is so great about them and why would you get them?

I do not have one, but I am planning to build one in the summer. The reasons I want one are: for ongoing nitrate reduction, to stablize the pH up at night, to grow little benefical creatures like amphipods, to grow algae that I can feed to my tangs, to have a safe space for injuried fish or coral and to try someting new!
Just my ideas!
