refugiums

I just noticed this forum, i don't know why i haven't been here before. I figured this would be a good place to post this question. I posted the same one in two other forums. But i think this is a better place to post it....
anywho, I need to know about refugiums? I have an idea of what they are and what they do. Can i put one under my tank? I guess i need to know what equipment i need for one. I have a 55g tank. I'll really appreciate anyones help...

i saw an earlier post about sumps. It helped a lot. If anyone has anymore info about them, i'd sure appreciate it.

oh k, it's me again. I thought i'd tell you about my tank and stuff.
It's a Long 55g. I have a fluval 404 canister filter. Cyclone protein skimmer, 1 802 powerhead, two 55watt bulbs(compact lighting). I don't know what all you need to know for a refugium. I know i'll have to get another light. Um...my stand is 48'' long. About 3/4's of it is free/unobstructed(the other one/fourth has my fluval and surgeprotecter). I'm willing to do some of the work myself, if i can figure it out. I'll prolly buy a tank though, unless it has to be kind of a thick glass. I know some of the smaller ones aren't thick and i'd hate for it to break.
SO, if anyone can help me on what kind of tank, lighting, if i need a new pump, stuff like that, i would definaltley appreciate it...pics help too!!!

have you done any searches for refugium on this board? There is a really good article at seahorse.org about refugiums if you need some more info.
