What kind of anemone is it? If it is an anemone that doesn't sting very much like a BTA you can just use your hand and pick it up and place it onto a spot on the LR where you'd like it. Then it will just adjust itself to its needs. If it isn't a less stinging one then you can use gloves or put a plastic bag around your hand.
yea i would definitly wait, they need an established tank of atleast 6months, if you got it now it would most certainly die, what kind of lights do u have? i have killed too many being a newbie before and trust me you will regret the time and money wasted on it if you buy it now, i have got one now that i have had for 6 months and its doing great! HTH
I've known people who have gotten away with it a month after cycling, not that I would recommend it, I'm all for the 6 month wait.
I would acclimate it similar to any invert, let it get used to your tank paramiters slowly, don't shock it by plunging it in.
Use your hand or the bag or the glove method.
Will this be an online order or straight from Local shop?
Many anemones are shipped without or very little water, it has been found that they actually have a higher survival rate this way. Many feel that all you need to do is float the bag for a while.
Personally I still like to drip or add some tank water over an extended period so that it still gets used to it slowly, and thats just my opinion.
lionfish28 - Have you decided on the lighting yet?
I agree on waiting, esp. since you're just adding new lights. Things can change with the addition of new lights. IMO, wait to make sure the params are stable. As far as handling, I drip acclimated our BTA and placed it with my bare hand. I will say that a couple tentacles stuck to my fingers and scared the heck out of me, but I took it as a good sign of a healthy anemone. Good luck.
I got my RBTA after 3 months, and the first of those months was spent cycling the tank. He is doing great and has grown at LEAST an inch since I got him about two or three weeks ago. I will try to make him split by doing a massive water change today.
I may have missed something but what lights did you get lionfish28.
Me I still love what VHO does to my tank, I only have 380 and my anemones split all to often. I would like to see what they would do under a 175 or 250 MH/VHO combo.
