remote deep sandbed?

It is a sandbed of 3-4 inches or more that is not in the Display tank. It is usually part of a sump/refugium area. I have one that is part of my refugium. There is 4-5 inches of sand and macroalgae.
The theory is that you will colonize anerobic bacteria that will turn nitrate into nitrous gas, thus exporting nitrogen out of your system
