Remove liverock?

I have a piece of LR that has some orange sponge growing on it. Lately the sponge has started to develop big cracks in it, and a small corner has turned black. I assume that this means the sponge is dieing. Should i remove this piece of LR from my tank? I was thinking that the sponge's death will pollute the tank? Thanks for the help.

depending on the size of the sponge on what it can or can not do.
if you are worried about the sponge dieing off then you can take the rock and scrub that area with a toothbrush and get rid of it on the other hand some of mine do this occasiionally and part of the spong will die off and the rest is fine so.
