Removing Bio Balls

I was thinking of switching out my bio balls and placing LR in my wet/dry instead. Are there any problems i should worry about? Im concerned with my nitrates. I cant seem to get them lower than 20 and im thinking it might be the bio balls.

The live rock must be completely submerged and lit. I removed bioballs and replaced with just a filter pad, but now I have been reading that a filter pad placed upstream of the skimmer cripples the skimmers ability to remove organics.
I have not decided what to do, but I definately would get rid of bioballs.

Thanks Thomas. I was looking for a thread like that.

And after reading that thread I am going to try and clean out 1/4 of my bio balls and see if that has an effect on my nitrates. I have already changed out my filter floss from skimmer box on down. Next water change is scheduled for Friday so I give it a shot. Thanks again.

I've done the change with adding live rock/rumble in the are under the bio balls & so far so good. I also picked up some manila clams to add to the sand bed on in the tank. They have done wonders but since they are used to being in much colder water only last about 3-4 days with some of them dying off. They become great fish food. I make my own food & that seems to be more substantial for the fish anyway.
