Removing Clams From Rocks

I read this on another site and I wanted to get people's feedback. Does this method work?
Q: I have a clam with its foot attached to a rock....how do I safely remove the clam?
A: Care should be taken, as you can kill them if you try and remove them from the rock they're attached to. Squirting ice cold water at the foot will make them let go:
1. Put some RO/DI water in the freezer for a couple hours.
2. Using a turkey baster, slowly squirt the cold water at the base of the clam.
3. Gently rock the clam to loosen it from the rock. The cold water should cause the foot to retract.

Finally moved my Derasa from my rocks to my sand...cold water near the foot worked like a charm.
