Removing coral from the plug

No,it doesn't have to stay on the plug.
Just make sure if you super glue it to your live rock it still can be moved if it needs more,or less,light or water-flow.

What coral is it? Depends on how you cut it and if you can use something other then gel.
IF it's SPS corals, you can use epoxy putty. If it's soft corals, youc an use fishing line or wedding gown mesh. You can also use rubber bands.... lots of ways to skin a cat.
