i have a 130 watt PC on my 36 bowfront. i have been hearing that T5 HOs are better and putt off more light for less watts. if i were to get some T5s how many watts would it have to be for me to keep all corals but SPS?

about 200 watts...roughly 5 watts/gallon is the 'accepted' amount of light to keep just about any corals..except possibly sps and clams. Some people have claimed success even with sps and clams with T5s!

the challenge for me would be finding a fixture that is 30" long and can supply that amount of light in an area of 12X30 since the bow part of my tank is where i need to lift up the lid.
the only fixtures i have seen to fit this are 96watt T5HO. and that probably isnt enough for LPS

They can be suspended from the ceiling or a DIY hanging system/fixture. I believe it is Demartini that has her lights on one of those over her ADA tank. I have mine hanging from my ceiling and I like the fact that I can raise and lower them when needed.

I was thinking of DIY T5s...but the whole ballast and hooking it up to me is real confusing.
i've been looking around the internet like crazy but i cant find all that much.
the only thing i know im gonna do so far is buy some reflectors and those drain things on houses to house the T5s. besides that im lost.
so if i were to do this i would have to use 24" bulbs over my 30" bowfront cause 36" bulbs would be too big. but this means i need more of them and im confused on how many i will need for a 36 gallon tank to keep all but SPS
