I don't turn mine off.
Unless you have something in the tank that might warrent such a thing. Like its blowing your sandbed around, an anemone is walking close to the powerhead...something...:notsure:

I don't and I have 4 PHs in my tank. The fish find places to tuck themselves into at night so the current doesn't bother them.

My wavemaker has a light sensor, and when the lights turn off for the night, the wavemaker adjusts the powerheads. However, they are not turned completely off. Water movement is reduced, but not eliminated.

Interesting...
I know that light would change from day to night of course..but how much does the current, and wave action, actually change during this period in the natural environment (or does it?)
If it doesn't: do the fish find a calmer area at night due to the fact they usually have the room to do so?
If it does: would this not be caused, in part by winds, due to heating and cooling of land masses, in which case the decision would be made by what type of fish we have due to their local environment being near or far from land masses?
Just wondering about why the decision comes about...

I would not use a Rio on a wavemaker, they are prone to breakage with normal use and I'm sure a wavemaker would finish it off quickly. Some wavemakers have soft start features some do not. The powerstrip type do not have this feature and just turn power on/off so they are somewhat rough on powerheads. The Red Sea Wavemaster though does have a soft start feature and is less abusive on the PH. Some people complain of grinding noises on start-up with the Maxi-Jet PH's, which there is a cure for by glueing the magnet and impeller, but I have never had a problem without glueing. Only once in a while will a PH make grinding nosies for about second then stop.

I've got a Tsunami wavemaker. It can handle three powerheads. I use Maxi Jets. IMO, they are great little pumps.
The settings for Pump 1 and Pump 2 alternate. When P1 is on, P2 is off. Settings can be from 1 minute to nearly 40.
P3 is independent and has its own timer.
There is also a feed push button that turns pumps off when feeding. (I rarely use the push button).
In night mode, the pumps are placed in a gentle mode which apparently simulates the calming of a reef at night.

Why is this this a respond asap? Didn't you hear about the boy that cried wolf? Repond asap is something like "I spilled a gallon of Part A in my tank" not this.

I think Maxi-Jets are mostly reccommended, but that doesn't mean you can't use others. I've only used Maxi-jets and they have worked great and it seems to be what most people use.
