I am getting a 75 gal tank that already has been going for a year or two know ffrom my mom's friend. She has everything, live rock, equiptment, etc. do I need to restart the whole tank or can I keep it running? Also does anyone have any experience or info about moving tanks? If I want to start a reef tank do I need live sand 'cuz I think she might have crushed coarals?

Live sand would be my choice. It is better looking and more benefical to a reef tank. If it were me, a DSB (deep sand bed) would be my choice. This will help any nitrate problems that you WILL encounter.
You will have to empty all contents to move the tank. (I think that was your question?)
If the live rock is established you should get little to no cycle at all. Just keep it wet during the move. If they have any filter media, balls, sponges, bio-whells, keep them wet also. This will allow the bacteria to live during the move.
Good Luck

If a buy live sand do I have to let that cycle since it will be new to the tank. Also should I put it in when I finishing moving before putting the tank back together putting saran-rap down on top of it (then pouting the water)
