rescue bubble?

One of my local lfs' has a bubble that is on deaths door. Very little tissue left, and where there is tissue, it's not enough to form sweepers or anything more than tiny bubbles. I'd like to give this poor guy a shot at life. My main question is what do you do to remove all the green algae from the skeleton where the tissue is receeded?

Nothing. I would leave it alone. Scrubbing the skeleton around receding tissue will cause more problems. Some may look like nothing is there but could be a small amount of tissue.
Corals which are dying general don't take well to handeling. The best thing would be to provide good water quality and let him heal.

The skeleton is definitely overun by algae. I would think if something weren't done to remove the algae, the already near death coral will be a goner. How can tissue return if the skeletons covered in algae?

I wonder if putting it in your tank if the cleanup crew would clean the algae off or harm the bubble in doing so.... something to think about.

When we added a couple corals that had algae on the rock, our crew had it clean overnight. The rock wasnt over-run with algae or anything, but it what was there was gone. The only thing I'd worry about are snails. Ours dont care where their shell is, so if 1 started cleaning the skeleton it may damage the tissue is left. JAT( new acronym Just a Thought). Good luck with your decision.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm not sure if I'm going to try it or not. I hadn't considered my cleanup crew helping out with the algae problem. I have a formidable crew, with many pods, so maybe it will have a chance. Thanks.
