Rescued Xenia

My local fish store went out of business and was almost giving everything away. I felt so bad for this xenia I took it home It looks so bad. This is my 1st coral in the tank. 90gal 7month old and lights are MH. So with that how do I save this coral? It is so small and looks bad. When is it dead? what does it look like when it is dead? I saved it but it may be to late. anyone can help me?

Xenia can grow back from nearly nothing.
It will fall apart and shrivel if dead. It does not tolerate heat well. If it goes limp or looks like it took a beating, that might be all it is. Should bounce back with a proper setting and good light. Not much to do but wait.

I'm taking some xenia up north to give to a couple of the Tucson reefers. I went from 20 stalks 3 months ago to my entire 125g covered in it. Including the glass. I still think it's pretty, but it is a pretty weed.

I took a Xenia that was a pathetic almost nothing specimen and it has become large in only a couple of months without actively feeding it.
I would not worry too much about feeding the xenia, IMHO.
FYI, it has done well under high light, low light, low flow, high flow.......it is a coral that does not really have strict requirements.
And good for you, saving the xenia. It is your first coral, and not a bad one to start with.
