I have a 75 gallon tank that is just live rock and one fish left. There are thse little "worms" all over the tank when the fish dies whenever i was planing oin starting the tank back up. Here is my question should I kill the tank and restart everything. Can i use the live rock again or should i sell it or trash it? I know i can clean out my wet/dry filter and that stuff. But the live rock is what im wondering about. Also how should I clena out he tank. Can I use any cemicals? Thanks guys. Oh yeah forgot to say that my dad was "taking care" of my tank im in college so he tries to help but yeah. If anyone can tell me what these worm things are that would be great too. I havent been able to get over ot my fish store yet.

they're called bristle worms and they're very dangerous.
Most LFS sell a product called "trap-em" for those pests who will ruin your tank if not taken care of.

why are you going to let you fish DIE? I would not just let him die to try to start a new set up if you dont want him take him to a LFS and get credit. Thats not a very good idea and to post it on here is a bad thing. ALot of people will take that as a very bad thing. Just to let you know. Also they are very good for you tank. I dont know where you get they are bad for a tank. If i was you i wound not take everything down and start all over its plane stupid to even do that. Why would you want to take everything down and start all over? Having stuff in your tank means its doing good.

i wasnt going to let him die im not that mean. I had no idea what they were the worm things and i wanted to make sure htey werent bad. I talked to my local place otday and they said get a trap to get rid of a few of them. I dont want to kill my tank at all...i just have to teach my dad how to take care of it. I want to make the tank nice better (errr not good with words) but i think you guys get the picture. My dad likes to either underfeed or in my freshwater tank over feed my fish. Its kinda tough keeping a tank and being at college a few hours away.
sorry for the misunderstanding about Mr. Clown Fishy and dying. I really like him

no prob. I would not get a trap to to remove tem they are very good for the tank. I would get a good clean up crew and your tank should be good.

Littlebuck i have a question for you. How do I go around trying to find someone in my area to share an order with? There is no way I need $80 worth of live critters for my tanks for now. Also my parents dont know I started up my 10g nano so buying alot of critters and having some go to school and some go to the parents house would be bad.

Bristleworms are not bad, they can just be a pain when they get big and are in large numbers. Get a glove and a pair of pliers and go hunting one night after the lights go out. Drop in some sinking pellets for bait and you will be able to catch quite a few.

First of all, are you sure they are bristleworms? Are they red and yellow with little bristles sticking out the side? They move really slow unless threatened? If so, then they are bristlewoprms. Or are they a clear or milky white with brown on the back and move quickly? If this is the case, then they are pods. Either way, both are good. Get yourself a wrasse, he will eat both.

That's just flat wrong. I have them all over my reef and they haven't caused a problem. There are some bad species and some of the really big ones are bad, but in general they are nothing to worry about as they eat dead things mostly.

What is your reason for wanting to break it all down, sell the rock, clean everything, etc.? Is it just the worms? Definitely don't do it because of that. Really, I see little reason to do it unless you were having MAJOR problems and even then there is little reason to actually start from scratch. Please inform us what has taken you to this line of thought.

im at college right now my dad is incharge of taking care of my tank. He doesnt like to listen to me about my tank b/c he has a few freshwater tanks and thinks he knows everything about it. I would love to keep it going but they way he is keeping it i kinda feel bad for m y only clown left.
I want to have the tank when i move out completely too.
