Retarted Clownfish

I have a good size maroon (3-4 incher) clownfish. I recieved it with a new tank, it was kept in a tank with mostly rock and one large carpet anemone. I want it to host a Anemone but it wont. I purchased a purple tip anemone but he still doesn't like them. Should I give up on him or get another type of anemone?

Hosting takes a long time. And not just and anemone will do. Even if you purchase the anemone that has been proven to be your clowns favorite type they won't always "make friends". I've had my clown for almost 2 years, they are false percula clowns. I have tried every thing from bubble tip to their favorite the sebae anemone, and absolutly nothing. 3 months ago I purchased and daisy gonapora. the 2 lost no time setting up house keeping. Go figure. Keep trying and goodluck.

I have learned through my clowns that when they feel safe there is no need for them to find a host. For example my ocellaris wouldn't have a host for it's first full year of existance, but when I had to catch him for qt after adding a parasitic mandarin, he found a host real fast!! Which, unfortunately was an anemone that my clarkii lived in, but I had already removed. Upon reentry, he went for the frogspawn.

Some clownfish naturally host, others do not. My maroon hosts a piece of rock that I have in the tank. He takes food back to the rock to feed the rock everytime I feed the tank.
Tizzo....beautiful pictures! :happyfish

Rykna, I would have to disagree with you. I added a LTA to my tank, as soon as I started putting in my tank, my gold stripe maroon dive bombed it and was instantly in love. I got the anenome for free because it was damaged, thank goodness because it died a week later. To this day my gsm hosts: my crocea clam, mushrooms, caulerpa, and my old red trachiphyllia(whom he killed). Here are some pics.

P.S. The first picture with the anenome was taken maybe 10 minutes after I was added to the tank.
