Return Pump Advise Needed

I was looking into purchasing a return pump. I was looking at a mag9 or a sen900. What would you guys prefer? It will have about 6 foot of head. I would like it to be internal and external. Is the sen the same as a sedra? The mag is about 20 bucks cheaper. What brand of pumps do you guys/gals prefer and have had the best luck with?

What kind of pressure are you looking to maintain at 6 foot? Dolphin is a good pump. The mags...I know everyone likes them...and I have a 7, but was dissappointed in its performance to lift water 4 feet or so...so I use it to replace water during water changes...

So you would prefer the sen900? What did you replace your mag with? Has anyone used a sen series pump?

I have heard good comments about the sen900...but I've never seen one in action. I use a magdrive 1200 for my return and its been effective. How much water flow are you wanting at 6' of head? A mag9 or 7.5 may not be able to provide much flow at that head but a mag1200 would be able to provide around 800 GPH at 6'....describe what you intend to use the pump for and folks may be better able to help you decide what to use.

My intention is to run from the sump (20gal) to the main tank (30gal). I want to branch off and also run to a fuge that will be on top of the tank (10gal). The fuge will then gravity feed the main tank. I am still debating on putting a sqwd inline. I would rather throttle the pump back a little than not have enough flow. I would like to have about 3-400 gph in the main tank and around 100gph in the fuge. The main tank will be 5' 6" from the pump and the fuge will be 7' 6" from the pump. Would it be best to run 2 pumps? One for the main and one for the fuge? HTH

a mag 12 will be perfect for that application. you can get them for under 100 bucks online, and it will run great for years provided you do some annual maintenance on it. it will have enough flow to feed your fuge, and it will be strong enough to run a scwd if you decide to add one. a 900 gph pump will be a bit too low imho, but a 1200, yeah thats the ticket.

Anybody have the instructions handy for their Mag 12's ? Notice how they suggest using 1.5" max flow.........
