Reverse Osmosis and making sand bed

My friend has a reverse osmosis system in his house for thier water. I was wondering if that water can be used for the fish tank, or does it have to be a particular kind?
Also, I have argonite and florida sand on the way, I also have crushed coral. My question is, when I get the sand, how should I layer it, or should I just mix it together? Oh yes, I do have 45lb of Marshal Island rock coming too.
30gal tank
20lb argonite
45lb florida
whole lot of crushed coral..lol
Thanks again.
This board is a blessing

I would think that type of ro unit would work....I'd test the water though to be sure.
I'd remove the crushed coral if you plan to add LS and build a DSB. Most folks prefer the finer grains of sand and the CC defeats the purpose. You'll be pleased with the appearence and benefits of a DSB.

Ok, color me stupid..hehe.
What dose DSB stand for, I am guesing sand bed, and how do I make it with the sand I have coming. I wont add the crushed coral then. I just have plenty of it from a previous tank.
Thanks again

DSB= Deep Sand Bed. It is a sand bed of 4 inches. It provides a place for anarobic bacteria to grow to covert nitrate to nitrogen. The smaller the grain size the better. As for the water, test for nitrate and phosphate. You should be alright to use it though.

Unless you happen to love the cc look don't put it in there! I"m in process of taking mine out and it's a pain. doesn't add much to my tank look with pantyhose bags of cc laying around on the sand but didn't want to screw up the bio of the tank. <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />
