Ric FL -vs- Ric Yuma! ROUND 1

I was wondering if there was any visual difference between a ricordea florida and ricordea yuma? I know that yumas can come in an almost endless variety of colors.. but is there any REAL way to tell a difference besides their location?
All info is praised!

Yes... yumas have the little pimples on their mouths and floridas don't.

I agree with wax,but if i am correct the yumas also get alot bigger!

That too. Plus floridas really only come in a few colors after a while you can see a picture and just know.

Here's some vocabulary for ya, the pimples are called vesicles, and the raised area arouned the mouth is called the hypostome.
Also, at the top of the hypostome on yumas, they have a neon green/yellow ring around the mouth. I've only seen a few ric floridas that have this.
And there's always the way to ID them by experience. After you've seen enough ric fl and yumas, you can distinguish between the two and not even know how you do it.

The vesicles go right up to the hypostome.

Not the best florida example since in this pose his mouth is sort've sunk in and you can't see the lack of vesicles on his hypostome.

Mine are to far in the back of my tank to get good close-ups of also,but i tried!Viper,those are awesome Rics,i love the first one.I have never saw one that color before.

Thanks! I bought them both from two different LFS. The first pic was taken by the LFS, but since then it's lost a lot of its blue color since I'm running yellower lights. For the second pic I used a 3x optical zoom plus 4x digital zoom.

You should cut one of your yumas and since you dont have any floridas... i'll gladly trade you a few for the yuma cutting
Just got a really neat looking fl ric today which I sliced right away... had never had a mushroom that released as much slime as this one did.. was the thickest nastiest slime ever.

Yea, that's a good idea, but the shipping from coast-to-coast is a killer.

I have a 65 watt actinic PC, 10kk PC, and a 150 watt 10kk DE halide, but the halide looks more like 6,500k instead of 10kk.

Since you are running a 10k pc i would run a 20k halide.
