Ricordia as a Hat

My Scarlet Hermit Crab decided to wear a Ricordia as a hat. He camped out underneath the coral for about 2 hours before moving on....

Thanks

I have some nicer Ricordia's that are just out of frame (love the colors, even though my camera doesn't do it justice with the bluer bulbs I recently installed...). I had to laugh when I saw the crab underneath the edge of the Ricordia though, I had never seen one do that before. Kind of cool...

** Not an expert alert **

My Ric's seem to be very particular. I haven't figured out if it is lighting or flow (or both), but placement in the tank makes a huge difference. I bought my first Orange Ric from a LFS (it was in a nasty tank) and it doubled in size in two weeks and split twice within 6 weeks. For the 5+ months after that, it didn't do anything - it actually looked like they were getting smaller. About that time, I changed from 10K to 14K HQI bulbs (it was time to replace bulbs and I wanted a "bluer" tank) and I rearranged my rock work. The Ric's were basically at the same depth in the tank, but in a location where they got noticeably more random flow. They have doubled in size in the 8 weeks since and look better than they ever have (although there are no signs of splitting).
I bought a "Ric pack" off of someone here on the forum and some of the Ric's are in direct light while others are under ledges (not by choice - I had trouble securely attaching them to rubble and they floated around until they latched on to something...). Some flourish in direct light and flow and others flourish with indirect lighting and very little flow. I haven't been able to determine what the common denominator is to know which ones will like light and flow, but the Blue's and Green's seem to do better with indirect lighting while the Orange one's do better with direct lighting and more flow (not a recommendation - that's just how it works in my tank).
Regardless, I love the colors and am trying to create a little Ric Garden in that corner of the tank. I am moving to SPS, so the softies are coming out, but I'll definitely keep the Ric's - they are a personal favorite.
Take Care...
