i recieved a small ric and it was put on a rock close to sps and i can see now it was a bad idea. it is all shriveled up and about to die.
im going to try and peel it off and put it somehwere els.
what are their lighting requirements? like other shrooms? or high light? what flow?
in your experience i want to know what you have found to be goood..

Do you know if its a Yuma or Florida one??
Anyways, since they are tempermental when you go to remove it make sure you get a piece of rock it is attached to. If you just peel it off without any rock you will have fun getting it to attach, I am struggling with that right now. They don't like to be glued so if you can chisle some rock with it you can then put some coral glue to the rock its on and attach that to another piece of rock.
They are pretty hardy, most say that Yuma is more of a challenge than the Florida ones.
Good luck, send a pic if you can and maybe more help can be given to you before you do this.

Can you send a picture of it??
You don't have to get a big piece of rock with it, just chip under it a bit of rock its attached to. Worse cast, the ric will pop off like mine did and then you will have to set it on a piece of rock and wait for it to attach.

When I get a free-floating ricordia, they tend to float around in the aquarium and end up somewhere they are unhappy. So I take a very small bowl (sort of like a condiment dish or salt cellar), add a couple teaspoons of the sand in it, and then put in some rock rubble on top. Then place the ricordia on it. You should place it somewhere in the tank where it gets some flow, but not a hurricane! I put mine in the mid-light level area. If the ricordia continues to float out, place a small netting top over the dish and secure it with a rubber band around the dish. (I use on old laundry net- the kind you put delicates in to wash.) Then give it a week or two, and the ricordia will pick a piece of rubble and attach. Then you can tale the ricordia out of the boawl and place it in your aquarium. I also feed the ricordia while its in the bowl just in case the netting keeps food from getting to it.
This method works for strays zoas too.

I agree that if you try to move it, you should try to get a piece of the rock with it...mostly because it is already stressed. None of my rics appreciate intense light and will shy away from it. They also seem to prefer less than average flow.
Ricordea Florida has no tentacles on the mouth. Ricordea Yuma has tentacles on the mouth. They both come in many colors so color is not a good way to discern between the two. Yuma is typically more expensive and less receptive to changes in lighting and water conditions. I'll find a pic of each to post so you can identify which one you have.
Ok, first pic is a purple Ricordea Yuma. Notice the tentacles around the mouth.
Second pic is green Ricordea Florida. Smooth around the mouth area.

I have the exact same Yuma purple one as you have shown there too. It came to me loose when the guy said it would be attached......

He did include a piece of rubble with it, now it is off in the corner of the tank, it is not blowing around and is by this rubble. I don't want to bother it. But its not ontop of the rock just beside it should I just leave it alone or do the dish method??
It has been in the same area now for a few days.
By the way, love that Florida you have. I have a nice orange one I much prefer the Floridas over the Yumas I like the look of them better but that is just me.

Deb, since yours seems to have found a happy place, you can place it on top of some LR rubble right where it is and it will most likely attach. If you are concerned about it blowing around, you could use the small container method. It works very well. Just place the container in the same area that the ric is curently taking up residence.
I picked up two oranges and a peach colored Florida a couple months ago. The peach color does no show up well in pics, so I haven't posted a pic. Maybe I'll try to get some good pics of it. It really is beautiful, just hard to photograph. I remember you posting in my "new orange ric" thread.

Yes I think so far so good unless it gets moved I will just leave well enough alone and hope it attaches. So frusterating.
I love my orange but you are right, very hard to photograph that is for sure.
I love that green though, very nice. Maybe oneday I will add one of those to my tank as well.
There is a guy close to me that had the orange which I already have and he is getting in some blue florida's. I am waiting for those in early December.
Say, do you add anything to your tank for the ricordeas??

I do not feed my rics. I feed my fish over them and let them eat the leftovers. They do have better color if you feed them. Flrocordia (Mike) feeds his and they have deep beautiful color. I have so many that I feel it would be easy to overfeed the tank if I tried. They grow fast and propagate so I will stick to not feeding them. If you have only one or two, I would take the time to spot feed. I fed my greens early on, but stopped when I had a green hair issue.
