Ridvolt Grounding probe

hello,
I just received my ridvolt grounding probe this morning...it says to choose a good ground...it has to be near the outlet due to it being attached to the plug. What is a good grounding spot? Is a heater a good spot? It says to use a qualified electrician...I do not have the money to do this so I am asking you guys...The heater is the only metal thing that i can think of that could work...also...on the titanium part that gets submerged in the tank...there is a suction cup that comes with it. the cup has a hole where the probe fit into, however you can not move the suction cup down the line..it won't fit on anything other than the probe itself...I want to make sure that that is all right...(having the probe on the suction cup. If anyone has any advice that would be great.

Does the end of the wire ( not the probe end ) have a 3-prong plug with 2 plastic spades and 1 ground ?
Or just a bare wire lead ?
The suction cup thing works fine, I've got both mine set up that way. Just make sure the probe is in the water, and stick the sucker to the glass.

hey brian, thanks for answering....the plug has one metal piece and 2 plastic plugs...What i did is this... the directions said this is ok if there is no appropriate grounding location. I just took the metal "eye" and took out the screw to the outlet... I put the eye around the screw and screwed it back in. It should work like that...of course I don't think there is any way to know if it works... my fish aren't having any problems that I can tell because of voltage...this was more of a precautionary measure. Assuming nothing is supposed to happen when it's all pluged in, it's working! thanks again.

Well if it has the 3 prong plug connection, you can just plug it into a standard grounded wall receptical- if you have one available close to the tank ( that isn't already maxed out like most of ours LOL :D )
Connecting the metal eye to the wallplate screw will sometimes work too - providing the receptical box is grounded as it should be.
Only way to really know is to grab a volt/ohm meter and check out the ground source, and check your tank water for any lingering stray voltage potential.
See ya !
