We are in the process of looking for a used saltwater tank setup. We previously had one 20 years ago and....as we are finding out alot of things have changed.
We are looking to get some input with regards to a used set-up we are interested in buying.
It includes:
- 72 gal. bow tank
- 18 watt UV stabilizer?
- ETS protein skimmer
- Aqua-wet reef pump
- Heater, etc....
UV stabilizer...what does this do? Is it recommended for salt water?
Reef pump....is that good to have/necessary?
Any input you could provide would be greatly appreciated.....thanks.

The UV Stabilizer removes micro orginisims from the water. I don't recomend one, because it can remove beneficial things from the water. But thats just My opinion. I really don't know a lot about them, so wait for a couple more answers. Everything else sounds good though.

A 72 gallon tank is a good starting point.
A UV STERILIZER helps to keep your water clear and free of algae by exposing algae to UV light. I don't really feel they are neccessary for saltwater tanks, but many do. If it is coming free or cheap, you might as well take it and use it. It cannot hurt.
An ETSS skimmer is an excellent thing to have. They are one of the best skimmers out there.
I am not totally sure what you have as a "reef pump". Could you be more specific? Could you post the company who makes it?
What brand heater do you have? How many watts is it?
Do you have any type of filter? I would recommend either a wet/dry or sump if you have a reef ready fish tank.
