I have heard of tanks bowing...I know SOME do. I have not had one that did...If a tank bows it is going to break, it is the first sign of trouble..I would replace a tank if it bowed. Some tanks have even burst, I have not, by Gods good grace had that happen to me.
I longest I ever had any tank was two 30g longs, which I had for over 12 years...we finally sold them. They never bowed. My original 10g which I had even after I got married, never bowed. I had a 55g for 8 years and it never bowed, I gave that one to my dad, so I wouldn’t have to break it down and move it...I bought another 55g which I had for about 7 years, converted it to salt...it never bowed. Then I got a 75g..We sold it...two years old, it didn't bow...I now have a 90g and so far it hasn't bowed.
All those tanks, in all those years, I have never noticed a bow. Like I said, I stand right over the top and look down...if I noticed a bow it would totally freak me out. I would be buying a new tank that day, and all my fish would be in tubs until I got it up and running.
If that plastic center piece breaks all on its own...it is time for a new tank ASAP..JMO
I agree with the center piece breaking.........which is there to keep the glass from bowing. The manufacture is cutting cost by supporting the glass in the center or where ever the braces are. I asked you earlier on, do you have a ten gallon sitting around? Have you ever put a tape measure to you tanks on the edge and in the middle?
When I say a ten bows, it is like an 1/8" in the middle. So that is split between the two pannels of glass meaning that they each bow outward by 1/16". Not much. Without looking for it directly you probly wouldn't see it. On my ten I have a stock hood and it is very noticable in the hood itself.
I am not trying in any way to bash you. Please don't think that, anybody. I am just trying to be clear. I think most people have a misconception about things in general. Steel moves, Glass moves, things are engineered with saftey factors. Sometimes those limits are pushed and other times they aren't.
