Rio Power head

Anyone have noise problems with Rio powerheads? I have a Rio 800 and it is making a "rattling" sounds. I have taken it apart and cleaned it to see if there was any sand in it. That did not work.
Any suggestions?

I would suggest for a reef getting a power sweep, they work great and act as wave makers. Also I have heard from a lot of people on this board that they are noise makers.

Just curious... do you have a power sweep? If so, how long have you used it? I've owned (and returned) two of them, and I know of a few people with similar opinions. They work well right out of the box, but my experience was that they only sweep for a couple of days. You can take em apart and clean them, but with the same result. Mine was a "Power P.I.T.A".
Just my 2 cents.
As for the Rio - check to see if the impeller is damaged. If its cracked or broken, an imbalance could cause vibration and noise.

I do infact own and use one. It works great in my opinoin. The only time it stops sweeping is when the sponge is really full of junk. My .02

Cool. I wasn't trying to be controversial... I was just stating my experience. I did however, purchase my two when the product was first released. It could be that the design has been improved since then. When I got mine, they didn't even come with a sponge prefilter.
Thanks for the update.

How's this, I wrapped my rio 2100 in nerophrene and tie wrapped it, it is now quiet. It worked for the prism skimmer too.

the impeller may have came loose from the magnet, that happened to me once. Just used some fishtank safe silicon and glued it back on, no probs........
