RIO Powerheads watchout

This should possibly go into the equiptment section but I'll make it brief.
I have/had two rio 1100's, one burnt stopped pumping last night. I took it out of the tank and put it in a bucket and plugged it back in, and it threw out a flash brighter than my 35 mm camera flash. followed by some black charcol oozing out of the vents.
I replaced it with a maxijet 1200, much quieter. If your rios start getting loud plan on replacing them soon.

i was duped into buying a rio 800 for my 29. i am not at all impressed. yeah it moves alot of water around, but if any of the nozzle attachments are in place, the powerhead makes a lot of racket. i am already looking to replace it with a mini jet or a maxi. i certainly dont advise rios to anyone
