RO and leaky pipes

Is it possible for an RO unit to cause the pipes in my building to leak? The instructions on my new RO unit imply that it could, but don't see how that's possible. I would think that the pipes would be under more pressure when the faucet is off than when the RO is hooked up and a small amount of water is allowed to pass through. Am I correct, or should I be cautious about setting it up in a really old building?

No, the RO unit won't add any additional pressure. The unit works off the pressure of your water.

From what i have read a ro/di may cause your faucet to leak when on if you have the faucet attachment, It should not cause your pipes to leak as they are/should be copper and they should have been sweat'd!
A ro/di unit runs off backpressure so i guess it may be possible but if your pipes are in good shape they shouldn't leak.
Thats what i have read on it anyway.

I can totally see where the faucet might leak because, unlike the pipes leading up to the sink, the faucet is only designed to deal with the lower pressures that you get when the valve is opened and water is allowed to flow. I was pretty confident in my thinking about the pipes in the building until I got a call yesterday from the people downstairs saying that something was leaking through their ceiling. It was directly under the sink I was using for my RO. I'm thinking it was just a coincidence, but I wanted to get some other opinions before I hooked it back up.
