Ro/Di problem?

Hello everybody,
I have attached a picture of my Di section of my water maker. The white disc in my hand is what I have a question about. Does this need to be used? I tried blowing air through it and trying to see if water dripped through it but it seems solid, nothing getting through?
I just replaced all of the carbon filters and the DI resin and the previous resin was 95% black still. The bottom 5% was white and used up. The resin has been in there for over a year? Whats the problem? Thank you all!

Looks like a sponge filter that is probably clogged with calcium and lime build up :%%:

Can I remove it? Water doesn't pass through fast enough to lift the resin out anyways? If I cannot remove it, does anybody know where I can purchase a replacement?

Yes probably used to keep resin inside container, plastic strainer looks small enough to hold resin in. Also you said you haven't replaced resin in over a year, not good should be replaced every 6 months or when it changes color. You say it's still black, was it new when you got this DI usually resin is green, orange or other light color.

ok so after replacing the di resin and the two carbon filters, the water flow out of the good water is very very slow?? The waste water line flow is normal. Any ideas? The good water line is barely flowing?

Have you ever back flushed the membrane? Have you ever had the TDS reading done on your water?

well just today when I had the di canister off, i took off the flow reducer on the waster water and let it run free through the membrane and the two new carbon filters. Was this right?

Well everything seems to be flowing much better now. Now that everything is hooked back up, should I let water run through the system before filling my tank?

The flow reducer/restrictor is needed for the RO/DI unit to operate correctly......

No, to back flush your membrane, you switch the hoses not the inlet one the other two. Run it for 15 min. turn it off wait 15 min. to let pressure go away (or water will run out) switch hoses back let run 5 min. then you are good to go. Do this every month. How is your TDS reading this will determine the quality of water you are producing.

Why not just install a back flush kit to eliminate always taking lines loose????

Or you can do that. I spend enough money keeping up with all the things that break down, lol, never have any for the extras.
