RO/DI Question

After reading so much about how important good water quality is and how much people reccomend a RO/DI unit I have finally decided to buy one. I also got sick of constantly buying distilled water. I am going to go with the Typhoon High Rejection unit 75gpd. I have a questions though. Do I need to add anything to the clean water or can I just mix it with the salt and have everything I need? Also does the waste water line have to drain below the height of the unit?

If you suppliment the system for calcium & alkalinity then just mix your salt with your RO/DI water and that will establish decent levels plus replace trace elements. Best way to go in my opinion. I can't answer the question about the units drain...maybe somebody familiar with your system can provide some input.

I believe the waste water line would have enough pressure to push it up to a drain... not sure though. Mine is mounted up about 5' so it's out of the way.
The Typhoon High Rejection is a fine unit but there are a few things you should be aware of.
First you should have a pressure gauge. Mine (Typhoon III) is rated for no more than 75psi and works best above 55psi. A pressure gauge will help you get the most out of the system with out the danger of damaging the membrane.
Next is a backflow valve. This valve allows you to send water at a lower pressure back through the membrane to clean off sediments. It will lengthen the life of the membrane. This is not required but it's a good tool.
Last is the DI bypass. I'm not sure if the High Rejection comes with the DI bypass but what it does is allows you to bypass the DI when you first startup the unit each time. This lengthens the life of the DI filter. Again not required but a good tool.

Having the waste line above the unit is fine...mine setup is in the basement with waste line going up to kitchen sink drain.

Thanks I guess I'll look into spending the extra money for the Typhoon III.

What ever works best for you, both are quality units. ;)
