RO/DI Unit for Existing Algae.

Any recommendation for filtering the water already in the tank? I am looking to get a RO/DI unit to remove phospates but don't see the value by just adding in cleaner water during the monthly changes - that'll take a lifetime to see the difference with 190gal! I am having a green algae bloom that is prompting me to make the purchase - and it's not the algae that you can just wipe off with a sponge - I'm talking hard-core scrubbing action going on in my tank.
The next question is if my new metal halides that I will be setting up are just going to keep the algae around longer?

I think you would be suprised at the decrease in phosphate level just by doing a single water change (i.e. 10%), if you use R/O water
I'm also sure you will see an algae spike when you first use your metal halides, especially on your glass
