RO/DI Unit?

I just got a 75 gal tank and a sump and I am wondering what brand and size of RO/DI unit I would need....
How often do you need to run the RO/DI unit? Constantly, or only when you need to water change?
Also, is there anyway of getting around using an RO/DI unit, or is it a necessity?

i dont know what brand you would want but.... i do know that you will need to run it as often as you need too to keep up on your water changes and top offs. the only way around buying an ro/di unit is to go buy water from an lfs but for a 75 gallon tank you would have to buy about 10 gal a week and top off water. its all about practicality, and for a nano (like my 20) purchasing water from the store is more of a practical option... if you do choose to buy water from the store you will have to get 5 gallon jugs to haul around the water in

My 72 gallon evaporates about 1.5 gallons per day. It is very impractical for me to go buy water every time I need it. I would spend more money and time doing that than would be worthwhile.
I use a Whirlpool RO unit from Lowe's. They cost about $150 and they come with a tank reservoir. This means that whenever you need water, you already have it. Just turn on the faucet and fill up your top-off jug. The best part is that you can conveniently buy replacement cartridges from Lowe's without having the special order them on-line like you would have to do with the aquarium units. It is just as clean as anything out there and you get the added benefit of being able to drink it... :)

Check auction sites. You can get a 125g a day 6 stage RO/DI for around $125. They use standard filters that you can get anywhere.
