I recently installed a RO/DI unit in my home. Our tap water has a low pH and alk to begin with so how should I go about correcting this before I use the water for top-off.
I don't seem to have the problem when I use this water to make salt water as I'm sure that there must be some buffering agent in the salt mix.
I'm currently using a KH buffer but have heard that baking soda is a good and less expensive alternative. So I've done some searching here and on other sites. Now I'm more confused than ever, some sites say bake the baking soda, some said that baking soda could lower the pH (I thought that baking soda had a pH of 8.1 so don't know how it could lower it unless it started out higher than 8.1), and some say that it doesn't effect alkalinity.
Does anyone use baking soda to raise pH and KH? How do you use it?
