RO/DI?

I've seen a few posts concerning the use of these units as opposed to tap water. The question I have is does it remove the chlorine as well? My tap water has high levels of calcium, chlorine, and floride. I've been adding chlorine remover and letting the water sit with a power head, and heater running for 24hrs. before adding to my tank.

If the RO system has an activated carbon filter it will take the chlorin out. I still use a water conditioner, even though my system has one just to be safe.

Thanks for the info and the link. Read the link and they had some good info. I will probably need to invest in one of these units.

Hey thanks for the info. This would really help with topping off my koi pond and fountains outside. Durring the summer I've been keeping a 55 gallon barrel full to top off everyday. Alot of extra work. I usually have to add 5-10 gallons a day outside. My inside tanks I normally top off every 2-3 days.

I bought a Kent Maxxima HI-S RO/DI 35 GPD and it is the BEST investment I have evermade for my tank. I highly reccomend getting your own unit if you can afford it.

How much did it set you back if you dont mind me asking? The other unit that I was looking at is around $375.

Ok, maybe I'm off base here, but instead of paying all the money for a RO unit could'nt you just get a big rubbermaid garbge can, pre-mix your salt and run a power head in there for 24 hours before doing the water change?

I dont understand cadbury, Are you asking if you can do "age" RO water overnight? Or are you asking if you can "age" tap water?

Definitely get an RO/DI. And aging water will not remove impurities, only the chlorine will be released from the water. RO/DI removes impurities like phosphates and heavy metals. Great investment.

Stacy,
With that many tanks and such, You need to get the fastest you can afford. If you can get one with a DI thats a deffinate plus.
I use a Kent and have been happy with it. RO/DI is one of the first investments you should make when setting up a reef. You ever heard the saying "A chain is only as strong as the weakest link". Don't let your replacment water be your weakest link. It is the most important part of your tank..

Thanks for all the input. I'll be ordering a RO/DI unit in the next couple of days. I don't mind paying more for a new unit. Somewhat sceptical of buying used or on e-bay. I'll just need to do a little research on the different brands. Thanks again.

Sorry ruaround, I guess I'm saying could'nt you just age tap water, or would'nt that get rid of the Phosphates? I guess I need to read more about the RO/DI Unit and what they do?

Can't you buy RO water? I know pet stores sell it...and I've got a store near me called H20 Source that sells it as well, not sure of the price though..

Most every major chain grocery store carries RO water that you can buy anywhere from 29 cents a gallon to $1.00 a gal.
