Without knowing more specifics about each system you are referring too, there is little help anyone can give you.
There is no magic in RO/DI systems some are slightly better than others when looking at the pumps and internals. Then the customer care given for the specific brands. But then its up to the filters and from what I have been told there are only a couple of different companies that make the filters for RO/DI systems and they supply all the companys that sell them.

Sounds suspicious to me. I highly doubt there is any RO/DI unit out there worth half that for only 10 to 15 GPD output.

I have an RO/DI 5 stage 75 gpd that I got from "guys that deal with filters" and I paid like 150 or so. I get 0 TDS out of the unit and I doubt you can go into the negative numbers when it comes to TDS (LOL) so I would assume that it works just as well. Sure, it might only last 10 years rather than 20, and I might not have anyone to install it, but its not worth that much money in my opinion. I installed the RO/DI in about 15 minutes without directions and without ever seeing one before mine came in the box. Its really easy so I doubt you will need anyone to install it for you.

Most home RO units are not going to purify to the level that a Reefkeeper RO will, RO/DI water is pretty bad tasting..
