I am interested in getting an RO unit for my 125 gallon salt water tank. I am hoping to make it into a reef tank as soon as I can save up enough money. The store I normally shop at has an RO unit that you can attatch a Dionazation unit to. I have been looking on the internet and their are many styles and brands out there. Some have two canistors othes have three. Can anyone give me any advice on what style, brand, and how big. Thanks for any help

well....RO/DI is better than just RO so I would get the RO/DI. If you are going for a reef tank then a couple hundred bucks for the best quality of water is the way to go. Mine has 5 cannisters it was around $200.00. I got the sink faucet and 4 gallon holding tank and did away with my water delivery service. RO water goes to the faucet for drinking/cooking and RO/DI has its own output for the tank. Most have 50, 75 or 100 gallon per day units. Many use the Typhoon III. You can mount them under the kitchen sink and use it for drinking water as well or some put them in the laundry room or garage next to a large trash can for holding large amounts of clean water. I just fill up a pitcher every day for top-off. The initial tank filling took a day or so to make enough water. Hope that helps.

I saw some RO units at the place by the bay but now I am not sure if I should get the one at the store I shop at or the one online. The guys at the store of cours say it is good but should I take their word for it. Plus if something goes wrong I am used to these guys and they are local. The one I looked at on the net had a holding tank. Will that fit under a sink. I received some extra money at work and need to spend it before my wife does but I want to make the right choice.

Can you use the RO unit and still use your sink or do you need to have the RO unit filter water into a container? The one I saw at the fish store was only two canisters and was about 15 to 25 gpd. If I purchased this one I would have to filter the water into some type of container to do my 25 - 30 gallon water change. Everything I have been reading is leading me to believe that I will have to filter the water into a container. Is this true?
