RO water and initial set-up....

I was just wondering how everyone handled their initial set-up as far as RO water...
I don’t have an RO unit, I was going to use the RO water from Wal-Mart at 33 cents a gallon (was going to see when the filter is changed...lol)
But what did everyone who used RO water that didn’t have an RO unit do? Go to walmart and bring home 20 jugs of water?!
The water is 33 cents a gallon, but the jugs are 4 bucks each!
:help:

Just go and take a bunch of 5 gallon buckets to Wal Mart with you. If you don't have a bunch of 5 gallon buckets, ask your LFS if you can have any.

I agree with Tim. Hauling water can bea pain in the tail when you are dealing with new set ups, rock curing and about everything else that goes along with this hobby. I know I go through about 15 gallons a day of RO/DI. If you can afford it, invest in an RO/DI unit and a float valve.

Actually, the cost per gallon and for the cost of the jugs (hehe..I said jugs) you can probably by a used RO unit. Just a thought, I ended up getting an RO/DI since I have done the go get water, load heavy jugs of water in car, and drive carefully enough not to spill copious amounts of water in car (this can't be done by the way!) thing.
Plus those Jugs might only be $4 but if you are married they cost a lot more!
Sorry I couldn't help myself!

To be honest. I took a hose from outside and filled my tank up with that. With what I know now, I'd stongly reccomend against it though.

I did a while back, ended up having 4 - 5 Gallon Bottles. Had to make four trips to Wally World to fill my 65 gallon tank. It was not fun, took a whole day just to fill the tank.

I actually am borrowing a friends RO unit to fill my 100 gallon. That way I can see if I want to get one and I don't have to lug jugs (which I would do to fill my tank).

I cheated and paid my LFS to come out and fill my tank and set it up.
SOOO much water would take me DAYS to fill the tank. If I wanted to do it the right way/no tap water.
Regular water changes are a pain in the but. I have 10 5 gal jugs that I throw in the trunk of the Corolla and off to my LFS for water.

I just bought salt for the fist time and plan on mixing it tonight. I get my io water from Glacier water machines. The cool thing about these they tell you when the last service was performed and it is the same price as WW.
