I bought 30 gallons of it once when my RO unit broke and I needed some water asap, it tested 4-5 ppm, my RO unit produces 0-1ppm so its not bad at all.

It all depends on whether the people at each Walmart keep up with the filters. One store might be great while another may be terrible. Only way to know for sure is with a TDS meter.

The stuff I bought was in gallon jugs not the refill bottle thing, so I would guess that the water quality would be same at all stores, but yes if its a refill station in the store I would test first

Welcome to the boards
I have tested machine water at Walmart and the Crystal machines outside CVS & Publix supermarkets. Measuring less than 4 PPM with my TDS meter. The Crystal machines even have U/V sterilizers. Much cheaper at 25 cents a gal. than my lfs. He only has RO water at about 45 ppm for 50 cents.
I just use my old distilled water bottles from walmart (purple cap)

For years that is all I ever used, was the wal-mart distilled water for my water changes, I now have an RO installed, but when I go on vacation, I still buy the Wal-mart water to make top-off easier for who ever is taking care of my tank.
I've never had a problem with it, and you can't beat it at .63 cents a gallon.

Very interesting. I did not know I could use distilled water to top off with!! That would be so much easier for me than lifting that huge 5 gallon jug that I have to bring upstairs and then pour in the tank!!! I guess I'll have to try it unless someone....

yeah i used tap water to start my tank but after that i learned tap was bad and have been doing all water changes and top offs with walmart distilled water. no problems in the 4 months my tank has been up. just a small diatom outbreak but lighting changes cleared that up mostly.
