I have looked all around for an RO machine at a supermarket, but I cant find one here in the DC metro area... back in Oregon every grocery store had one... any ideas?
Home depot sells 5 gal plastic bottles (around 6 dlrs plus the bottle = 12 dlrs total) of drinking water. The type you find inverted in water fountains in many offices.
IMO you'd be better off to spend around $120 for a RO/DI unit.
