rock?

Not sure where to post this...but i had a friend give me some rock that i think is cool and was wondering if it safe to put in my saltwater aquarium...here is a picture of one piece....

hello, I have seen this type of rock in someone else's tank in a thread... I believe the general conclusion was NO you cannot keep this type of rock in a saltwater aquarium. It is pretty though...

oh darn...do u know why? There doesn't seem to be anything shinny on it....

I think it had to do with what the rock is made of, But I really cant remember. Only that it was a "no" in putting it in a saltwater tank. Sorry.

I'm not quite sure as to what type of rock it is but most rocks that are no no's leach minerals or metals into the water that would be detrimental to your tank.

It is called Feller Stone. It is composed of slate. I would not add this to my tank. There is too much stuff out there that is good for our tanks to cut some corners with something that is questionable IMO.
