Rocks

Hey guys, I have heard a lot lately of a lot of people making base rock out of argonate and cemente. I was wondering if this is a good idea and if it is possible for the cemente/argonate mix to become live while curing with real live rock. Let me know your thoughts, Thanks!

You have to cure it separately from live rock or you'll kill everything on the live rock. Once it's cured, then you can make it live by mixing it in among live rocks.

I'm really not the best at explaining this, as I've never done it myself. But the way I believe it works is that there are some chemicals that need to leave the cement before it's really safe for your tank?

U can google it lol.... I know that one of my LFS keeps in a tank with no light for a couple weeks before its ready for sale, LR that is. I personally wouldnt put any of the other stuff in unless i needed a lot of rock for like a huge predator tank or something, ive heard it does turn into LR though prob takes some time i would guess. Never heard of cement being used though, its usually aragonite or limestone or lime something lol good luck with ur endevor.

There is a thread in the DIY section I believe. You have to use a specific brand and type of cement and salt i believe. The curing can take months i have heard

Yes, the curing can take some time.
IMO, if you're trying to save some money by not using all live rock (which is why most people make their own rock), it would be wiser to by dry macro rock.
