Romaine lettuce

How much Romaine lettuce should I provide for my fish. I give a large leaf a day and my tangs devour it. Are there drawbacks to giving this green to fish?

My (admittedly limited) understanding is that while tangs will readily eat romaine, it provides very little in the way of nutrition for them. You might be better off giving them nori. I feed about 1/3 sheet every day in a lettuce clip and it gets devoured.

my answer... You want to feed fish what is natural to them in their environmet. Do you see romain growing in the sea? no, so IMO its not nutritional. Go with nori or seaweed sheets.

Hi,
The other downside to romaine is that due to the use of fertilizers which are high in nitrates, you can end up feeding your tangs lots of food that has a very high concentration of nitrates which is poisonous. Nori or seaweed selects are the way to go.
