Room for lights

I have a 29 gallon with a wood canopy or hood. I am looking to upgrade my lighting to compacts but I'm worried anything I get won't fit under the canopy. Anybody have any experience with this? Can someone reccommend a light that will fit. Thanks.

It is common practice for a lot of hobbiests to cut a hole in the top of the canopy and set the lights on top of it.

Really?? Cut a hole in a wood canopy. So it does sound like if I going with the Orbit lights they won't fit.
