royal gramma help

I bought a Royal Gramma 2 days ago and I noticed a white spot on his fin yesterday. There is only 1 spot and I don't think it is ich but I am just trying to make sure. I can't get any pictures because I don't have a digital camera or a regular 1 that focuses well enough. Could the spot be some kind of deformity? I'll keep an eye on him to see if it spreads or not. Let's hope it doesn't spread and it's just some kind of deformity... well if you can help it would be greatly appreciated but it is probably too early to tell....

It could be debris or an air bubble or even a deformity. Keep an eye on him and he gets more, you will need to take anti ich action. Did you quarintine him after you got him?

I didn't quarintine him because he is my first fish. Him and the clown goby I got with him are the only 2 fish in the tank and since they were in the same tank at the fish store I didn't think it would do any difference to quarintine them or not....

Do you have any LR or corals? If it does turn out to be Ich, you can hypo the tank and it will clear it. I have done this a few times on both of my tanks and it works great. one spot on my fish I would not worry about. If you start seeing a bunch of salt grains on him then I would worry. Grammas like scurry around in the rocks and tend to get sand grains or debris stuck to their coats now and then. Nothing to worry about. Def keep a close eye though. If it is ich,,,, the earlier you catch it the better.

If you need to do hypo, get a refractrometer. That way you do it right and kill the ich. There is a great write up on it in the Desiese (sp) fourm.
