just got a royal gramma yesterday through maill.
Even during acclimating, the poor fish wasn't doing good. lying motionless sideways.
After droping him into the tank, he floated at the corner quite motionlessly too.
This morning after I woke up, he is missing!!
Could he have recovered and went into hiding? or should I start taking apart my rock work to look for him?

Well naso tang, lawnmower blenny, 30 red leg, 2 clown, few corals, 100 tiny snails, 3 astrea turbo, sally lightfoot,..
You think he died and already got eaten?

Could be .... check your ammonia level to be safe. If you don't see it soon there's a good chance it died and the clean up crew did its job. If the water parameters are good, I wouldn't bother taking the rocks apart. :D

He doesn't come out when you're feeding? When I got a Royal Gramma and put him into a QT tank he spent more than a day just sitting on the bottom in the corner, hardly moving. Then he disappeared! I couldn't imagine where he'd gone - it's a small 5.5 gallon tank with just a PVC pipe and a decoration tree log! I couldn't imagine where he was. Then I noticed the tip of his nose sticking out from under one of the roots of the tree log. He really squeezed himself in there! Over the following several days he got more bold and definitely ate, though just jumping out, grabbing food, and going into hiding again. So...I would say give it a few more days before you panic. I think Royal Grammas are quite shy and yours could be hiding well!

Well update on my disappearing royal gramma!
To recap, he was almost belly up after acclimation.
Its been 2 days, I have never seen the sight of him. I checked ammonia and it is 0 still.
I checked quite carefully around the tank. Unless he went into the rock works to die in secret, or else I should be able to spot his corpse. I really don't think my clean up crew can completely wipe out a 1 1/2 inch fish over night leaving 0 trace. I mean wouldn't the fish bones fly around? lol
I will keep ya guys updated!

I would say a clean up crew could quite easily dispose of the fish, or at least it could become wedged in somewhere so you wouldn't find it.

Ive had very few fish die, but when they have, I would never see anything except a single bone if that. Cleanup crews are very adept at removing dead fish for you :)
Just check your ammonia and trite levels next day or two and add carbon if nessecary.
