Royal Gramma question

I am thinking of adding a fish in a few weeks to my 45g fowlr tank. I like the look of royal grammas but don't know a whole lot about them. I need to know if many of you have had good luck keeping them. Also, are they more of a hearty fish or are they difficult to keep. This fish would go in the tank with my false perc and bicolor angel.
Thanks :)

i had 3 royal grammas, the first one died due to ick, the 2nd one the water quality wasent all that great, and then the 3rd one my heater malfunctioned while i was quarteening it and the temp got over 90
from my own expericnes is that there terroratotale(spelling), the like to hide, but once there used to the tank they will happly go in and out of the rock work, there hardy fish as far as water quality is concerned but when it comes to desiese unfortunally there not, make sure that you aclamate them slowly the least ammount of stress and it turnes out to be strong and more happy, just make sure there not with aggressive fish, and theres hideing places and u wont have any problems

The Royal Gramma may take some time to get settled but will happily dart in and out of rockwork once settled. The hardiness of the fish depends greatly on your rockwork, comfort, water conditions, and friendliness of your tank. It is known for being susceptible to disease. The Royal will not pick at corals or inverts. When buying look for good fin structure, clear eyes, unblemished skin and vivid coloring. Most of this is from SWF species section on the Gramma, having given them their credit I must say the one I have in my reef is a great fish. I have had some over the years and never really had major problems with them unless the tank crashed. Another one you find at higher prices is the Blackcap Basslet which many here have said they bought and like.

i like mine. me and my friends call him Kobe cause he looks like he could be wearing a lakers jersey with his colors. he seems like a hearty fish. he hides alot but ive only had him for about 5 days. hes coming out more and more. id recommend him.

I have had 2 over the years, both survived a long time and were great fish. IMO one of the prettiest ones - the one that would always make people say "wow!"
They will get aggressive toward anything of a similar shape & size though. Don't put one in if you are going to get a goby or something similar. Also they are happiest with a lot of hidey holes in the rockwork to swim amongst.

I have had two over the years one lost to fighting and one jumped out.I like them and found them to be fairly hardy in good conditions. Pufferlover gave some great advice on this fish.

Royal Grammas are very nice fish and are hardy from what I have read and experienced. I like to watch mine dart in and out of the rock work. He will find a little hole and poke his head out then go back into the rock and poke his head out of a different hole. Great fish and fun to watch.

I would agree with everyone on this fish. I have had mine for 1 1/2 years and he has done great. Likes to have a place to hide. good eater of just about anything feed the tank. I would get another one if I had a nother tank to put it in. Good Luck

Mine is great, he does not hide anymore, swims all over the tank, and not mean to any other fish. Eats like a pig and overall is pretty hardy.

I think i will get royal gramma, sounds like it would do well in my system. As i said before, i have a bicolor angel and a false perc in my tank now. I also would like to add a six line wrasse to the tank. Should i add the wrasse first or the royal gramma? I would add the second fish about two months after the first was added.
Thanks, :)
