Are royal grammas violent? My gramma is opening its mouth very large. Im affraid it is a sign of aggression towards the other fish. Can anyone give me any imput. I hope that I dont have to take it back to the LFS. Thanks in advanced.

I think that I just figured it out. I think that i have a male. The only time that it opens its mouth is when it looks at the front of the glass. could it be seeing its reflection and getting aggressive at that???? i dont know

I've had several royal grammas and they all did that, maybe they're just stretching, but they do do that to defend there territory as well. I haven't ever had any of mine nip at other fish though, which is why I like the royal gramma over the other assessors you can get.

The only time my Royal does this is when its "defending its hole". Most of the time its in the open swimming with the other fish. I've never seen the Royal show any signs of agression unless another fish is moving towards its hole.

yep, that's all it's doing. just trying to ward off intruders. it won't harm anything that doesn't ask for it. i would definitely not worry about your gramma being too aggressive to take him out, he's the least of your probs.
