I just got a Royal Gramma a week ago!
They are awesome fish. He immediately took flake
(much to my surprise), and the colors are very intense! Surprisingly enough, he is quite brave. He is always out in the open swimming around, and only hides if you make a sudden movement or get your face within a few inches of the tank! And he is just in the quarantine tank!
Very happy with that purchase!

Congrats on the purchase, I have always thought about getting a gramma but just never have. Just to let you know if you didn't grammas have the reputation of being very bold. IMO I think they have the same temperament as a clown fish.

Really? I have always heard they are quite shy, and I'm certainly seen that with my gramma, my clowns are always swimming up the the front of the tank, while my gramma just hides in the back alot. It used to be more out in the front before I added the clowns :/
Anyways, congrats on the gramma! I love their colors! :) I hope yours does well!

I was very surprised by how bold it was, as I've heard they take I while to adjust to the tank. But, I really don't mind, I like seeing him. I'm not at all worried about putting him in with my clowns anymore though.

They are lovely fish, and quite bold especially once they are settled in. I lost mine a few months ago after having him for over three years,(And making two moves) I was very saddened as he was a favorite of mine. They crack me up how they do their threat display with very wide open jaws.
Be aware that they are notorious "jumpers", so be sure your tank is well covered.

I have an egg crate top, so it should be fine.
My clowns have survived a whole ton.
Two moves, and all of the beginer mistakes I have made.
But now they are permantly in my 55. And happy!

I'm sorry to inform everyone that he decided to jump out of the qt last week.

I thought I had the tank covered well. But, he must have slipped out by the filter. Live and learn I guess...
Lesson to all those out there with almost covered tanks:
Make sure there are no gaps big enough to let a fish out!!!
But be sure to ensure proper gas exchange.

Been there man with a canary wrasse, a black clown goby, and a royal gramma! All in different tanks! Sorry about the loss but Royal Grammas are great!
